Here's the deal:
- Aging Material: Sure, sometimes vinyl simply reaches its lifespan and gets brittle. In that case, replacing the cover is the solution.
- Hidden Culprits: Often, though, the vinyl suffers because of failing components underneath. Here's how:
- Deflated Support: Worn-out foam loses its shape, causing the vinyl cover to stretch excessively. This increased tension makes the vinyl more prone to tearing.
- Sharp Shooters: Broken spring covers allow the metal springs to poke through, which tears the foam and destroys the vinyl.
- Dipped Depressions: Broken springs create dips that force the vinyl to stretch unnaturally and leads to uneven, premature wear.
- Stressful Frames: Broken frame components put undue stress on the vinyl, increasing the risk of rips and tears.
