Overall Evaluation
Before starting any upholstery repair, it's important to access the overall condition of the furniture. The majority of customers who call for service state that they have rips or tears in their seats. But what is causing the material to fail?
While it is common that the material is simply old and has reached the end of it's useful life, there are many cases in which the damage is due to other failing components. For example, old foam that has lost its volume and resistance cannot provide the necessary support for the vinyl cover which rests on top, causing it to stretch further than it should and to come into contact with the hard subsurface. Without proper cushioning to protect it, the vinyl rips and tears prematurely.
Similarly, in seats with springs, if the spring-cover (which lays on top of the springs and creates a layer of separation that protects the foam and top cover) breaks, the springs will cut right through the foam and top cover. With nothing to restrain them, the hard steel springs come into direct contact with the customer. Also, broken springs create a void, a "dipped" in area which forces the foam and vinyl cover to stretch beyond their designed functions resulting in premature foam and vinyl destruction. Broken frame components also place stress on foam and vinyl covers causing them to rip and tear prematurely.
We check the condition of booths and chairs before replacing covers to make sure the end product is safe and sturdy.
